                             Chamber recognizes Bashor Children’s Home

TheElkhart County Chamber of Commerce recognized Bashor Children’s Home as the Not for Profit of the Year at its annual recognition dinner on March 5, 2008.

Bashor was recognized out of just less than 1000 not for profits in the county as the best in 2007. Bashor was recognized for its commitment to the children of the county and for providing much needed services to these children.  Whether it is schooling, a safe place to live, or help with different issues a child may have, Bashor has been filling this need in the community for over 85 years.  On a daily basis Bashor provides services for over 100 children on its campus in Elkhart County.

The award goes towards realizing our vision of being a passionate purposeful organization that is mission driven striving to become a nationally recognized model agency, an agency which inspires others by replacing ineffective traditional approaches with catalytic innovation so powerful it significantly reduces the need and use of intensive-long term residential services by truly serving families.

President Don Philips gives credit for the award to the Employees, Board of Directors, and the volunteers that work day in and day out with the children and their families.  “The employees and their dedication to the mission of Bashor is what really separates us from many organizations.  Their commitment to do what is best for the children without regard for anything else is what really makes us special."

The board also welcomed four new members:

Rev. Dan Motto of Anderson, a retired United Methodist pastor who returns to the board. He had a previous three-year term while serving as Michiana District Superintendent.

Rev. Rick Taylor, senior pastor at Grace UMC in Rochester, whose congregation celebrates a long history of service to Bashor and its children.

Dick Pyle of Elkhart, an administrator for Concord Community Schools. He brings technology experience and expertise to the agency.

Joel Duthie of Elkhart, an attorney with NIBCO, one of Elkhart County's leading industrial firms and another strong Bashor supporter.
