Parent Classes
Stepping Up:   For parents of “challenging” teenagers. Class focuses on redirecting crisis and
                                potential crisis situations. (Instructor – Jessica Lala)
 
·          Classes begin January 20 and will run 8 consecutive weeks
·          Class time will be 6:00-7:30
·          Meals and childcare will be provided
·          Topics include:
o         Review of Adolescence
o         Understanding Yourself & Your Teenager (parenting styles)
o         Changing Your Response to Your Teen & Communicating Respect & Encouragement (2 lessons)
o         Communication
o         Encouraging Cooperation & Problem Solving
o         Using Consequences to Build Responsibility
o         Follow Through With Consequences
o         Mission & Values; Pulling it All Together
Positive Parenting: For parents of younger children (pre-teen) and early elementary school.
                                         Parenting and family development will be the focus.

·          Classes begin January 26 and will run for 12 sessions
·          Jan. 26/ Feb. 2, 16, 23/March 2, 9. 16. 23, 30/April 13, 20. 27
·          Class Time – 5:30-7:00
·          Meals and childcare will be provided
·          Topics include:
o         Discipline & Punishment (The differences - Discipline means “to teach”
o         Limits (setting limits, love & limits go hand-in-hand)
o         Consequences (natural and logical consequences)
o         Listening (non-listening actions, responding with understanding)
o         Anger (a natural reaction, helping a child deal with anger, responding in a positive way)
o         Challenging Behaviors (strategies to help children understand boundaries)
o         Parenting Tools (parenting tools to nurture and teach; prevention strategies)
o         Attention (Catch your child being good, focus on the positive behaviors)
o         Respect (Respect is taught by example)
o         Responsibility (teaching responsibility, a blend of independence and consideration)
o         Monitoring (knowing at all times where your child is)
o         Siblings (Sibling rivalry is natural, but so is sibling support, affection and friendship)
